Nyala Safari Lodge

General Information

If you are looking for a destination that is personalized away from crowded destinations then you have come to the right place. The staff at the lodge are dedicated and have a reputation for genuine South African hospitality without any pretences.

Our approach is to focus on all aspects of wildlife and not just chasing after the big 5, that is but a small component of the wilderness experience. Our meals are typical South African cuisine with a distinctive Euro African flavour. The total experience at the lodge contributes to the high referral rate of our visitors, but you will be the judge!

Facilities
The lodge consists of five en suite chalets. All meals are provided in typical South African three course cuisine. The catering at the lodge can provide in the myriad of our clients dietary requirements and all meals are provided in typical South African three course cuisine. Nyala Safari Lodge is an eco friendly destination and has many measures in place to reduce the impact on the environment.

Staff is from time to time involved in youth environmental education. The lodge is comprised of five en suite semi-luxury thatched chalets situated on the banks of the perennial Umhlametsi River. Century`s old shady Weeping Boer bean and riverside trees provide a relaxing atmosphere. Vervet monkey`s, bushbuck, duiker and many species of birds frequent the lodge. The lodge is fenced to ensure the safety of the many families that make us their lodge of choice.

The lodge features a permanent floodlit waterhole in front of the lodge. The viewing deck is situated under shady trees and hours in between activities can be spent in leisure observing animals visiting the waterhole. This Big 5 Reserve boasts some of the most dense (densest?) populations of giraffe, zebra and general game species.

Nocturnal species such as the Lesser Bush baby (Galago Senegalensis), African Wildcat (Felis Libyca), Spotted Genet, African Civet, Serval are frequently encountered during nightly game drives.

Activities
A typical daily programme starts with a light breakfast, early morning game drive of some 3 hours duration. A combination of walking and game drives can be undertaken on request. Brunch is served in the outside lapa (thatched roof), situated on the banks of the Perennial river. After a relaxing afternoon siesta the sundowner/evening game drive departs.

The night drive will continue after the sundowner break. When dusk fall a whole new world of nocturnal species awake to roam the African bushveld savanna . Back at the lodge a typical South African three course cuisine dinner awaits. Safety is of high concern during all our guided activities.

The highlight for most guests who stay two nights or more is the excursion to the Olifants River where hippo, crocodiles, elephants and many other species is found. Extended stays at Nyala offers guided half or full day tours to Kruger Park, cheetah breeding centre, raptor rehabilitation centre, cultural village and many more guided excursions to enhance an extended stay of four nights and more.
